It’s that time of year again where the university break is right around the corner and so if you are staying in Liverpool this winter, here are some of the unmissable Christmas events happening in the city this winter:
Ice Festival, Pier Head
After last years success, the ice festival returns to Liverpool bigger and better this time around, and is situated on the Pier Head that will be transformed into a winter wonderland! Some of the featured activities include;
An open air ice rink to take in the stunning views whilst you skate! Need a hand? Not to worry, there are always the penguin skate aids to help you glide across the ice with ease. The ice rink is suitable for ages 3 and up.
30M Ice slide: this incredible structure will be the largest ever real ice slide located in the UK, and it gets even better as there is now one additional slide to make 3 runs. You can experience the thrill of sliding through at an incredible pace with now shorter queues! This attraction is best enjoyed in the evenings, when the festival lights up and is open to all adults and children above 60cm in height.
Ice Bar: The ice bar returns with it’s glittering real ice sculptures and furniture in this -30 degree bar! You’ll need to wrap up warm in this attraction, but all visitors will be provided with a warm poncho. All sessions last 25 minutes and are suitable for all ages as alcohol free drinks are available (children under 17 must be accompanied by an adult)
The Ice festival also has a wide variety of rides and a food court that provides fun for people of all ages.
The Christmas markets have also relocated this year to St George’s plateau (just outside St George’s hall) to accommodate even more stalls due to last years success. The Christmas markets provide something for everyone. The beautiful sights and smells fill the air throughout the markets, as tempting treats such as Bavarian sausages, mulled wine, and delicious cakes are to be found on offer. With over 40 different stalls, this festive market has something for everyone.
Dreamworks Lantern experience; St Georges Hall
Coming soon, the incredible Dreamworks lantern experience arrives in Liverpool, its first time in the UK and is described as “an immersive 3D lantern experience”. Here you can see hundreds of characters from many of the Dreamworks blockbusters lit up in beautifully hand crafted lanterns that light up the set.
Richard Hollis, the head of consumer products at Dreamworks had this to say “We chose Liverpool because it is an iconic city, a true cultural capital known all over the world for its great events and the stunning location of St George’s Hall is the perfect setting for Dreamworks Lights.”
Tickets are available for £10 for adults, and £8 for children, group discounts apply. Tickets must be booked in advance to guarantee entry.
