Choosing your accommodation for the year is the first major step you take to beginning student life at university. It’s one of the biggest decisions you can make and determines how well you adapt to being a student from the second you arrive. Whether it concerns location, space or ensuring that the property is properly accredited, there are a number of factors you should consider before reaching a final decision.

Will your student home be ideally located?

So you’ve decided to attend university in Liverpool, but where about in the city would you like to stay? The first question to ask yourself before you begin your search is what area would be your preferred home during your studies.

Liverpool isn’t the biggest of cities but there are a number of different areas to choose from. If you want to be close to all the action and nightlife, or your prime campus is central, then the city centre is the place to be. That said, finding a house in the city centre might be appealing as far as entertainment is concerned but it will generally be more expensive. Accommodation outside of town will usually get you more value for your money. On top of being a cost-effective option, living outside of the city centre will be quieter and will still feature plenty of shops, restaurants and things to do nearby. You can also rest assured that transport into town isn’t hard to come by.

How much room space is available

Next on your list is to determine how much space you will need. Is your bedroom spacious enough? Do you have enough room for all your belongings? View the property before you sign

This may seem obvious but you would be surprised at how many students finalise their student accommodation before they’ve even visited it! Before you sign the property agreement, make sure you have visited it at least once even if that means travelling to Liverpool before your big move. Inspect the property to the maximum. Check that it suits your requirements and matches the description and pictures you’ve seen. Make sure that there are no health hazards and don’t be afraid to ask questions or express any concerns.

You should receive your deposit after your agreement has concluded as long as you have continued to meet the terms of your agreement, avoided damage to the property, and paid all rent and bills as agreed.
