Mark Barrow

If you’re a university student looking for a great night out, then Liverpool really is the place to be. This vibrant city has more than our fair share of unique bars and pubs perfect for student life.

Our favourite spots can be found in Wavertree and the city centre so you’re sure to find a spot near your student accommodation in Liverpool.

Read on to discover the 6 best student bars in Liverpool that you have to visit.

Hope & Anchor – Maryland St

Our list of the best student bars in Liverpool kicks off right in the city centre at the Hope and Anchor, just a short walk from the University of Liverpool and LJMU City campuses making it a great hangout place between lectures.

The bar prides itself on its range of drinks, including everything from craft beers to cocktails.  If you’re looking for something to eat, their street-food style menu has plenty to choose from, including crowd-pleasing pizzas,  burgers and chicken wings and vegetarian and vegan options. We love ‘Wing Wednesday’, where chicken and cauliflower wings are just 30p each!

In the evening, the bar hosts an array of theme nights, including karaoke, live music, quiz nights, and more. Additionally, they have pool tables, games machines, board games, and free Wi-Fi.

Best of all, Hope & Anchor offers all-day, every-day student discounts, so don’t forget to take your uni card or Uni Days card.

Reviews:

  • Great place, has a warm and vibrant atmosphere, food is brilliant and the bar staff are really friendly. Brilliant place for students to go to.
  • If students designed a bar this would be the place. Excellent foods for vegans and meat lovers alike. Facilities available for students like printing and even charging your phone. There is more but best visit yourself.
  • Great Place to visit as a student with amazing deals on offer, love the vibe and the friendly staff – even with very cheap prices i also signed up to uni-crew and got a free pint – win-win all round – Students it’s a must-visit.

The Font – Arrad St

Another student favourite in the heart of the Knowledge Quarter, this bar has been a staple student spot since 2001. The Font bar is known for its friendly atmosphere, great selection of food and drinks and games consoles where you can challenge your mates to a game of Mario Cart.

The Font is a truly student-budget-friendly option and offers cheap drinks and good quality but simple, affordable food. Our go-to meal when we visit is the homemade burger (from £8) and loaded fries (from £6).

They also show live sports on big screen TVs.

Download their Rewards App and you can get great drinks deals, including 3 cocktails for £7.50 and 3 bottles of Coors for £6.00.

Bar Cava – Wood St

The ‘World famous’ tequila bar on Wood Street is an intimate place for students to hang out and is the perfect place for you and your mates to kick off your night out. With over 30 flavours of tequila to choose from, including the downright tasty ‘Summer Fruits’ and ‘Mango’ to the infamous ‘Baked Bean’ and ‘Chilli’ shots you can be as daring as you like. Shots are just £1.50 so be careful and trust us, you defo won’t get through the menu in one visit. Don’t worry if tequila isn’t your thing, there are loads of cocktails to choose from and, on cocktail night you can get 2 for £12!

This small but mighty bar is one of the coolest venues and hosts some of the best DJs in town. If you’re looking for somewhere that you can get the party started then head here, you won’t be disappointed.

The Brookhouse – Smithdown Road

The Brookhouse pub is easily the most popular student spot on Smithdown Rd. This massive pub has been a student institution for decades and is hugely popular with the uni population due to cheap meals, drinks deals, pub quizzes, the huge outdoor seating area and rowdy student nights.

With a laid-back vibe during the day, The Brookhouse is a great place to catch up with friends or a uni group over a coffee. But, in the evening it becomes the most action-packed venue this side of town. Thursday night is student’s night and it can get seriously busy, with drinks currently priced at £1.70 each.

It’s also a great place to watch sports, with big screens everywhere. And with loads of picnic benches outside, this is the only place to go when the sun comes out.

With cheap drinks, cheap eats, student discounts and the best student night in Wavertree, who needs to head all the way into town?

The Love Bar – Smithdown Road

Located just across the road from Asda, this is the newest addition to the Smithdown Road student pub crawl and is helping to make Wavertree a destination for a student night out in its own right. It’s quickly and easily earned a place on the list of the best student bars in Liverpool.

With friendly staff, a great selection of drinks, pool tables, the only dance floor this side of town, regular DJ sets and student drinks deals they’ve got every occasion covered.

The Arts Bar – Hope St / Baltic Market

Not specifically a student bar, but a great place to go if ‘the arts’ is your thing. The Arts Bar nurtures the local artistic community by providing a fresh, secure, and imaginative setting, regularly hosting diverse events that showcase the talents of the city’s artists, musicians, poets, actors, comedians, and filmmakers. And it’s a great place for a drink.

One of the standout features here is its unique decor. The walls are covered in graffiti and street art, giving the bar a cool and edgy vibe.

Known for its affordable prices, with drinks starting from as little as £2.50, they also often offer student-specific deals and discounts, making it a popular spot for those on a budget.

They host a range of events, including live music, DJ sets, and open mic nights. Plus if you’re in a band or simply need somewhere to practice, you can rent out studio/rehearsal rooms.
